Summary

In the new crime thriller from #1 New York Times-bestselling J。D。 Robb, a small and easily concealed weapon wreaks havoc, and the killer is just a face in the crowd。

Jenna’s parents had finally given in, and there she was, at a New York club with her best friends, watching the legendary band Avenue A, carrying her demo in hopes of slipping it to the guitarist, Jake Kincade。 Then, from the stage, Jake catches her eye, and smiles。 It’s the best night of her life。
It’s the last night of her life。

Minutes later, Jake’s in the alley getting some fresh air, and the girl from the dance floor comes stumbling out, sick and confused and deathly pale。 He tries to help, but it’s no use。 He doesn’t know that someone in the crowd has jabbed her with a needle—and when his girlfriend Nadine arrives, she knows the only thing left to do for the girl is call her friend, Lieutenant Eve Dallas。

After everyone on the scene is interviewed, lab results show a toxic mix of substances in the victim’s body—and for an extra touch of viciousness, the needle was teeming with infectious agents。 Dallas searches for a pattern: Had any boys been harassing Jenna? Was she engaging in risky behavior or caught up in something shady? But there are no obvious clues why this levelheaded sixteen-year-old, passionate about her music, would be targeted。

And that worries Dallas。 Because if Jenna wasn’t targeted, if she was just the random, unlucky victim of a madman consumed by hatred, there are likely more deaths to come。

This is book 58 of 59 of the In Death Series, but can be read as a standalone。 I have not read any of this authors books let alone any from this Series so I was going in blind。 The story is centred around Jenna who is a sixteen year old girl who wants to make it in the music industry。 So when her parents finally let her go to a club to watch one of her favourite bands, Jenna has other ideas and takes one of her demo tapes to give to one of the band members。 It is the best night of her life until This is book 58 of 59 of the In Death Series, but can be read as a standalone。 I have not read any of this authors books let alone any from this Series so I was going in blind。 The story is centred around Jenna who is a sixteen year old girl who wants to make it in the music industry。 So when her parents finally let her go to a club to watch one of her favourite bands, Jenna has other ideas and takes one of her demo tapes to give to one of the band members。 It is the best night of her life until she is seen stumbling out of the club, looking very unwell。 One of the band members Jake tries to help her but is of no use, so calls the police as something fishy is going on。 And Eve Dallas is the one that is going to solve this mystery。 It was a good well rounded story that has a level of intrigue to it, it is a great crime thriller with plenty of twists to keep the reader guessing。 Even though I have not read any of the other series, I found that it didn't matter and still enjoyed the story。 I really like Eve Dallas, she is a strong independent woman who does not take any abuse from no one。 I was like you go girl many times。 A thoroughly enjoyable read。 。。。more

This was a compelling police procedural that captivated me。 There were some great character moments with Jake and Nadine, which was a treat for long-time series readers。 The focus on the mystery was well-balanced and made for an enjoyable installment in the series。 Despite being the 58th book, Nora Roberts continues to bring freshness to each story, showcasing her remarkable talent。

I was describing this book to my 80 year old dad, and he asked if he could borrow it to read。 I did warn him that there are over 50 books in the series! I read it in one sitting。 He will take at least a week。 But I would lay odds that he enjoys it and asks to read more of the series。 It was that good!

Random in Death is the 58th book in the In Death series。 This is the first book I have read in this series and can be a stand-alone read。 This was a tough one for me。 I liked the story, but this was centered around teens using a lot of slang which took away from the story。Jenna, a sixteen-year-old girl is with her friends at a club that has teen night。 No drinks allowed, just groups that perform music。 While there she feels a sharp jab in her arm。 She feels the side effects very quickly and repe Random in Death is the 58th book in the In Death series。 This is the first book I have read in this series and can be a stand-alone read。 This was a tough one for me。 I liked the story, but this was centered around teens using a lot of slang which took away from the story。Jenna, a sixteen-year-old girl is with her friends at a club that has teen night。 No drinks allowed, just groups that perform music。 While there she feels a sharp jab in her arm。 She feels the side effects very quickly and repeats he jabbed me while holding her arm。 Needing fresh air she goes out the back and collapses into Jake's arms。 He recognizes her from seeing her in the crowd。 Jake sees that she is in trouble, calls 911, and tries to do CPR but without success。 Jake feels responsible for not being able to do more。Lieutenant Eve Dallas is called to the scene by Nadine, her friend and girlfriend to Jake。 After arriving and interviewing everyone it becomes clear Jenna was injected with something that killed her。 Dallas is determined to find the person responsible, but she will have to work fast as more girls are in danger。I liked the plot and the characters, but I would have loved it without all the slang。 Here and there okay, but for me it was just too much。I received an ARC from NEttGalley for an unbiased review。 。。。more

I'm so not the type of person who will read book after book of the same character unless those characters are between the pages of a In Death book。 For some reason I never get tired of them Each book I feel like I get to know Eve more and more。 There is just something about her and Roarke that I need a dose of at least once a year。 So, I was happy to start the year off with a new book in that series。 Up this time is Random in Death and I have to say that the death's in this story really crushed I'm so not the type of person who will read book after book of the same character unless those characters are between the pages of a In Death book。 For some reason I never get tired of them Each book I feel like I get to know Eve more and more。 There is just something about her and Roarke that I need a dose of at least once a year。 So, I was happy to start the year off with a new book in that series。 Up this time is Random in Death and I have to say that the death's in this story really crushed me。 Robb's ability to weave a story is so good that I spent so much of this book watching to cry or kick someone's butt。 She did a great job of making you feel like you are in the moment with these girls。 You want to reach through the pages and hold them in their last moments。 Like you could make it easier on them。 Like with all of the In Death books Eve doesn't solve the murders on her own。 She and the rest of the wonderful characters do their part。 To be honest they are part of the reason these stories are so good。 There is such a great balance of them working the case and their lives away from work。 As much as the books are about the crimes, they are more than just that。 We get glimpse into the personal lives of some of the characters and the relationship between Eve and them。 The murders in Random in Death have many twists and turns that will keep you wondering throughout the story。 From the first death you feel the rush of fear that the characters have for the next victim。 They work hard to make sure there isn't a next。 I will say one thing that I feel about this series。 I would read it in order。 You can pass on the novellas, but the other books should be done in order。 I feel that way because of the growth of the characters。 It's wonderful to see how Eve and Roarke become close and how Eve interacts with the other characters and their work/friend relationship grows。 If you skip around in the series, you might miss something when it happens。 Otherwise read away。 Blog | Facebook | Instagram | TwitterARC received for an honest review 。。。more

Random in Death by J。D。 Robb is the 58th book in her fantastic In Death/Eve Dallas series。 As I have noted previous times, I am a huge fan of this wonderful series, having read every book and novellas。 I also love Eve and Roarke, who I still consider the best literary couple。 Random in Death was another fantastic addition to this series。 I will never have enough of this series, and marvel how Robb continues to give us fascinating stories at 58 books later。The story starts off with Eve and Roarke Random in Death by J。D。 Robb is the 58th book in her fantastic In Death/Eve Dallas series。 As I have noted previous times, I am a huge fan of this wonderful series, having read every book and novellas。 I also love Eve and Roarke, who I still consider the best literary couple。 Random in Death was another fantastic addition to this series。 I will never have enough of this series, and marvel how Robb continues to give us fascinating stories at 58 books later。The story starts off with Eve and Roarke enjoying a quite evening at home, when she receives a call to a scene of a murder at a music concert。 Sixteen- year-old, Jenna Harbough was at the concert with friends, enjoying her favorite band, when she feels being stabbed on her arm。 Within minutes, she begins to feel sick, and stumbles out side and dies; as she was injected with a vicious cocktail of a various combination of deadly drugs。 Jake Kincaide, lead singer to the band and Nadine’s boyfriend, tries to revive her to no avail; it is Nadine who calls Eve to hurry to the scene。 After interviewing everyone at scene, the lab results show a toxic mix of substances in the victim’s body with the needle having major infectious agents。The following day, at a different venue, another teenager is injected with a syringe needle, highly infected and she too dies。 Eve and Peabody, as well as Roarke are scrambling to find the killer before another young girl is murdered。 Slowly, Eve tries to put the pieces together to reveal possible perpetrator, especially after a third girl was injected, but she survived, as her extra jacket limited the injection; and she was saved, with her and her friends giving some idea what the person looked like and what they wore。With Eve in full control of the case, she and Peabody do everything to identify the real killer。 With the team helping out, they needed to explore the dark mind of a young teenager, who was a psychopath, who hated girls who ignored him。 When they get closer, they rush to find the killer, who is now after a 4th girl。 Will they save her?I have to say I love Eve and Peabody together, and I also love when Roarke goes with her on some interviews。 I always enjoy spending time with the many recurring characters, such as Peabody, Nadine, McNab, Mira, Mavis, Feeney, Reo, Summerset, Galahad, Charles and Louise。What follows is an intense, exciting, non-stop action filled race to find out who the real killer was; with edge of your seat suspense。 To say too much more would be spoilers, and this is too great of a story to ruin it for you。 Random in Death was a compelling, captivating, horrifying thriller from start to finish。 J。D。 Robb once again gives us another masterpiece to this wonderful series, which I hope keeps on rolling for many years to come。 Random in Death is another masterpiece to this amazing series, which is always so very well written by J。D。 Robb。BarbThe Reading Cafe 。。。more

I haven't read an "In Death" book since 2011 and not because I didn't like them。 I was waiting for the next one, and other books caught my eye, and here we are 13 years later, and I decided to pick up book 58。 And not surprisingly, I still quite enjoy Eve, Roarke, Peabody, and the gang。 I enjoy the futuristic fun (although it really isn't all that far in the future anymore)。 I still love Eve's thought process and how she works things out。 She is a true bad ***, and I'm here for it。 I have about I haven't read an "In Death" book since 2011 and not because I didn't like them。 I was waiting for the next one, and other books caught my eye, and here we are 13 years later, and I decided to pick up book 58。 And not surprisingly, I still quite enjoy Eve, Roarke, Peabody, and the gang。 I enjoy the futuristic fun (although it really isn't all that far in the future anymore)。 I still love Eve's thought process and how she works things out。 She is a true bad ***, and I'm here for it。 I have about 25 books to get caught up on, but you can bet I'm going to give it the old college try。 You can read this without having read previous ones。 You may miss some back story, but the police procedural is still a great read。 。。。more

Rating: 4。5As a fan of the series since Naked in Death, book one of the In Death Series, I was on pins and needles waiting to read the latest installment。Lt。 Eve Dallas, her partner, Det。 Peabody and the rest of her crew, stand for the dead。 In this case, the dead are teenage girls seemingly targeted and harmed for no reason。 The victims float through the worlds of Eve’s friends and family making things complicated as she searches for the person responsible。 Roarke, civilian consultant, husband Rating: 4。5As a fan of the series since Naked in Death, book one of the In Death Series, I was on pins and needles waiting to read the latest installment。Lt。 Eve Dallas, her partner, Det。 Peabody and the rest of her crew, stand for the dead。 In this case, the dead are teenage girls seemingly targeted and harmed for no reason。 The victims float through the worlds of Eve’s friends and family making things complicated as she searches for the person responsible。 Roarke, civilian consultant, husband to Eve, is on hand to help as well。The method used on the victim is way worse than I would have ever imagined。 The combination is overkill causing some head scratching。 One or two would do the job, right?!The brief respite with Mavis, Leo, Peabody, McNab, Roarke, and Mavis/Leo’s daughter was adorable how she tells Eve she needs a nap。 It was a perfect rest point to give the reader a chance to catch up and digest all that had happened to that point。All of my favorite characters were included without it feeling like there were too many。 The confession gave me chills it was so well done。A witness asks Eve, “You’re going to get them aren’t you?” And she replies, “I’ll repeat。 It’s what we do。” I think that says it all。Bonus: Roarke shirtless, Roarke in jeans and a tee, and Eve “Boss Cop” in tee and vest showing how badass she is。 Power couple at its best。Thank you to #NetGalley for the opportunity to do an early read and share my thoughts on the story。 Happy Reading! 。。。more

I'm a big fan of Eve Dallas, and I've loved the fast paced investigations she's taken me on over the years。 This is another exciting read, with her "family" around her - I'm enjoying the addition of Nadine's rock star and seeing Mavis' family growing up :)I won't say more about the plot, because you know what to expect by the time you're on book 58 in the series, but its another good one。Recommended。 I'm a big fan of Eve Dallas, and I've loved the fast paced investigations she's taken me on over the years。 This is another exciting read, with her "family" around her - I'm enjoying the addition of Nadine's rock star and seeing Mavis' family growing up :)I won't say more about the plot, because you know what to expect by the time you're on book 58 in the series, but its another good one。Recommended。 。。。more

Random in Death by J。D。 Robb is the 58th book in the Eve Dallas series taking place in a futuristic version of New York City。 I love Eve's partner Detective Peabody and how well she and Eve work together。 I actually wish there were more scenes with Peabody, but often Eve sends her home and works with her husband, Roarke, who frequently consults for the police department。 They of course work well together, too, but I am always hoping for more Peabody! The case in this book is both intriguing and Random in Death by J。D。 Robb is the 58th book in the Eve Dallas series taking place in a futuristic version of New York City。 I love Eve's partner Detective Peabody and how well she and Eve work together。 I actually wish there were more scenes with Peabody, but often Eve sends her home and works with her husband, Roarke, who frequently consults for the police department。 They of course work well together, too, but I am always hoping for more Peabody! The case in this book is both intriguing and scary as young women are being singled out in public places and killed。 I was very engaged in the investigation as Eve and her team close in on the creepy killer who seems to be one step ahead of them。 Unlike most traditional procedurals, a big part of this series is the romance between Eve and Roarke。 The couple love each other completely and their love scenes are steamy。 I've read most, but not all of the prior books in the series, and this is an excellent addition to the series, and I would rate it 4。5 stars。 I received an advance copy of this ebook at no cost from NetGalley and St。 Martin's Press, but my review is voluntary and unbiased。   。。。more

If you like J。D。 Robb books, this one won't disappoint。 I do think the descriptions of violence against women seem more vivid in this book。 If you like J。D。 Robb books, this one won't disappoint。 I do think the descriptions of violence against women seem more vivid in this book。 。。。more
